History

Welcome to Haltwhistle’s most historic building.  The oldest part of the hotel was a Border Reivers' Pele Tower, dating from the 15th Century. Later it became a Manor House, Excise Office, Coaching Inn, Post Office, Temperance Hotel, Pub and Cafe. In 1997 we completely refurbished the building, finding many archaeological and architectural features - many of which have been included in the presentation of the reborn Hotel.

The result – a combination of modern comfort & Tradition.  We have a total of 12 bedrooms, all individually designed  many with original architectural features. All have private bathrooms and are equipped with TV, radio, direct dial telephones, hospitality trays and hair dryers.

In the original hotel, there are 5 bedrooms - three on the first floor - with a cosy lounge - ideal for parties of 6.  On the second floor there are two bedrooms - one of them - the Baron’s Suite – with a large day room providing extra space for families or a  meeting room for working visitors.  Often we have groups of friends or families who use these five rooms for a house party style break.

In 1999 we added 4 new chalet style bedrooms in the courtyard - innovatively designed on two levels, particularly suited to walkers and cyclists these rooms are also very popular with business people.

We have a secure car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the rear

In 2003 we refurbished a neighbouring building, also with much history –Originally a Medieval Bastle House - adding a purpose built laundry to our facilities and providing 3 new high quality suites overlooking Haltwhistle’s historic Market Square.

So, there is something for everyone, but most of all a warm welcome with a relaxed style and atmosphere to make you feel at home.
